The Calgary Family Therapy Centre located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, provides a mental health treatment program for children and their families who are experiencing difficulties. Formerly known as the University of Calgary ‘Family Therapy Program,’ the Centre was established in 1973. It is a clinical outpatient therapy program that offers specialized services in family therapy. Approximately 400 to 600 families are involved with the Centre each year.

The wide range of types of families and presenting problems provide a rich resource for clinical training experiences. The Centre offers ongoing teaching and serves as a base for conceptual research in family therapy. It has well developed physical facilities, including multiple interviewing rooms equipped with one-way mirrors for supervision and reflecting team work. Observation only occurs with consent from the family, however is encouraged in order to provide families and students optimal growth.

The orientation of the Centre in terms of the theoretical approach and methods of practice has changed several times. The Centre has been at the leading edge of the family therapy field for several years and is continually evolving by exploring, developing, and applying new patterns of therapeutic thought and action.

Located in Calgary, a vibrant western Canadian city with a population of over a million people, the Centre is a one hour drive from the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which offer renowned mountain scenery and world-class recreational activities.
